The booj Digital team headed to the hills for a department retreat in January to look back on another successful year and dream about the promising potential for 2018. Plus, as two of the five booj Digital members work remotely, it was the perfect opportunity to reconnect, bond as a team, and meet face to face to talk strategy and successes — plus, eat a ton of amazing food.

In August 2017, booj Digital co-manager and SEO director Katelyn Shields moved to the Black Hills in South Dakota. This served as the perfect destination for the team to truly retreat from it all, enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Black Hills area, do some sight seeing, and relax in a cozy cabin while snow fell all around.

booj Digital launched in June 2015 as an extension of the services that booj offers clients, and provides its clients with a comprehensive marketing package tailored to their specific needs and marketing goals. booj Digital creates community-focused content to help readers fall in love with the community they live in, put down roots, and maintain a relationship with the brand before, during and after the real estate transaction.

The team of five at booj Digital produces blog content, manages social media, provides advertising packages, and writes community and site content for clients throughout the nation — from South Florida to the Pacific Northwest, and everywhere in between.

The first portion of the retreat in South Dakota was focused on celebrating the many successes we had over the past year. Oftentimes, it’s easy to go through the motions without pausing to reflect on the amazing things you have accomplished. But looking back at those successes (and even the failures!) often propels you forward to achieve even more exciting results in the future.

The numbers speak for themselves! In 2017, six of the booj Digital clients received a total of 832,804 pageviews combined. 441,663 sessions came from organic search showcasing that our content strategy is synonymous with the subjects people are searching for. And an average time of 4 minutes and 22 seconds on site means readers are finding value in the content and sticking around to read it.

The remainder of the retreat was spent looking forward to the many ways we can improve our processes, maximize results, and work better both individually and as a team. We talked about the power of positive thinking (with plenty of examples from Larry Kendall’s renowned Ninja Selling philosophy!), talked SEO with our own in-house SEO guru, delved into Google Analytics, learned more about Facebook advertising, and discussed the importance of avoiding distraction in regards to time management and productivity. Plus, we went wine tasting, successfully solved the mystery at an escape room, visited Mount Rushmore, went on a hike, played board games, and ate lots of delicious food.

Sure, we like to write and tweet. We send emails until our hearts are content. We love a good color-coded spreadsheet with multiple tabs. But more importantly, the booj Digital team genuinely loves working together and enjoys the work we get to do for our clients. We have the opportunity to create valuable content, cultivate a positive brand image for clients, and build relationships within their communities. It’s very rewarding.

Our week spent in the Black Hills was invaluable for creating an even stronger team bond, celebrating each other and the various assets we each bring to the team, and actively working to create an even better year in 2018.
